#insidepngnews: "Kumuls are Rising"
Kumuls Fullback Alex Johnston has experienced a fair share of heartbreaks on the field, saying the 24-18 loss to Tonga was similar to his South Sydney’s defeat in the 2021 NRL Grand Final.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow. A couple of times this has happened to me and it's never a great feeling- to lose on the bell (full-time) basically is heartbreaking,” Johnston said.
The man from Lumi in West Sepik ran for over 130 meters and was instrumental in levelling the scores in the 67th minute when he slid across a scrum to put Dan Russell over the corner.
When asked for his thoughts on the Kumuls performance, Johnston replied saying the Kumuls are rising.
“I’ve been part of some great wins (2019 British Lions, 2022 Fiji Bati) but even in this loss, we came here on a mission to show that the Kumuls are rising, and we definitely showed that,” he said.
Meanwhile, Coach, Stanley Tepend confirmed that Xavier Coates sustained a minor foot injury during training, and will be monitored to see if he is fit to take the field against the Cook Islands next week Wednesday.
An update on Edene Gebbie and Jimmy Ngutlik will be posted once the information is released from the Kumuls camp.
